breast ultrasound

Breast Ultrasound + 3D Mammography is the standard of care in breast cancer screening for women with dense breast tissue.

Breast ultrasounds are commonly advised for women with dense breast tissue. In conjunction with an annual screening mammogram, both scans contribute to providing radiologists with a more comprehensive understanding of diagnosing diseases. This is particularly crucial as dense breast tissue can hinder cancer detection and is often linked to a higher risk of breast cancer.

It's essential to note that breast tissue density can fluctuate over time. Typically, breasts tend to become more fatty as we age, resulting in a decrease in density in most cases, though not always.

How do I know if I have dense breast tissue?

During your mammogram, you'll discover the density of your breast tissue. At Rezolut's Women's Imaging centers, we utilize the Volpara® Scorecard™ to ensure consistent reporting. This software integrates your specific density score to calculate your personalized breast cancer risk using the Tyrer-Cuzick model.

If your mammogram indicates dense breast tissue, this information will be included in the letter you receive post-examination. Many referring healthcare providers request a Bilateral Breast Sonogram for dense breast tissue, confirmed by the mammogram.

Upon identification of dense breast tissue in your mammogram results, we will work to conduct an ultrasound on the same day while you're in our office. It's important to note that while screening mammograms are typically covered by insurance, additional imaging may be subject to your copay, coinsurance, or deductible, if applicable.
